“Our Greatest Natural Resource is the Minds of Our Young Children”, Walt Disney

The Rotary Club of Hornsby District (RCoHD) believes in assisting the future generation with their career goals and providing opportunities within and outside of Rotary programs. In addition to our work with Rotaract Clubs, the RCoHD also supports students from regional schools in New South Wales. The program offers mentorship to Year 10 students, who are placed in different organisations in Sydney to gain practical work experience.

The first school the club coordinated with was Trundle Central School and then later Tottenham Central School. Funds are raised by members through a fun and light session during weekly meetings through club members.

The club’s Vocational Director coordinates with a nominated teacher from Tottenham Central School to transport the chosen students to Sydney for a week. Funds by the club are used to support the students during their stay.

Bushfire Relief

Bushfires devasted much of the eastern seaboard of Australia from late 2019 through to January 2020.
The Rotary Club Hornsby District received a donation from The Rotary Club of Port Klang in Malaysia towards bushfire relief. We added some of our own funds and some other donations and passed the funds on to The Rotary Club of Kurrajong - North Richmond for them to use in their local area that was very hard hit.
By passing the money directly to another Rotary Club we were able to ensure that 100% of the donations were spent on the relief and nothing was taken for administration.

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (A1AD)

The Rotary Club of Hornsby District was graced by the presence of Dr. Gaynor Heading who gave a very informative presentation of this common genetic disorder. Since then, we have taken it upon ourselves to not only learn more about the condition but raise awareness about it too.
