President's Message

Fellow Rotarians,

At our last meeting I had the pleasure of presenting a $1,000 cheque to Bob Page of Lifeline, proceeds of the book sale at Multicultural Day, Hornsby Girls’ High. Also present was Vibeke Burke from the Cancer Council, to whom I was pleased to present a cheque for nearly $6,000 from our sales on Daffodil Day.

At the inaugural board meeting of the Rotary Club of Hornsby District it was approved that we would support Cure Malaria, and Australian malaria vaccine developed at Griffith University. From our coin program we had already given $2,000 from the previous year’s allocation and we have now added another $8,000 towards this research and development project.

The Rotary Club of Woden has received a cheque for nearly $1,000 as their allocation of monies from the coin collections.

I would like to thank Gail Farr for representing the club on Remembrance Day, where she laid a wreath on behalf of the club.

We have just concluded another successful Hammond & Sheldon BBQ at their annual warehouse sale. Saturday was ‘bedlam’ and Sunday more subdued. Many thanks to all members, partners and family helpers, including Amanda and Katherine Scott who helped Dad Bill. Special thanks to Gail Farr and Rob Caldwell for their planning and organisation, Greg Timewell for his extra assistance and to Sadia for her exquisite Asian cuisine. Sadia will be at East Ryde next week at the Food and Wine Festival for the Macquarie Rotary Club. (see separate flyer).

On Wednesday I am heading to New Zealand on business and Peter will be in charge at the meeting next Monday.

Many thanks to Bobby Holder who is compiling this week’s bulletin from Oklahoma City.

 Yours in Rotary

Geoff

The 4-Way Test
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

The Object Of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Attendee’s Reminder

Please let us know if you are not going to attend or attending but not eating.
