Rotary Club of Hornsby District Bulletin 4 December 2017
Please remember our Annual General Meeting is one week from today, on the 11th of December. Tonight we'll call for further nominations.
The unfilled portions are as follow: President Vice-President Secretary Director (One position available)
It is very important that we fill all the reqired positions.
Yesterday I spoke on the local radio station, 2HHH, by invitation from Lucy Dahill. I spoke about two aspects of our club; The Foreign Coin Repatriation Program and the upcoming Ride-A-Day for Studio ARTES. You can listen to the podcast of the show at http://www.stayintheloopwithlucy.com.
I know Arthur has asked for help on Saturday, if you haven't given him your availability please do. It will be a fun day, and a good turnout would be appreciated.
Tonight you can find out more about Ride-A-Day at tonight's meeting, when the Studio ARTES CEO will be visiting. You can also find out more at their web site: http://www.studioartes.org.au/events/
See you all tonight.
Yours in Rotary service, Bobby
Children's Medical Research Institute Visit
Children’s Medical Research Institute Visit – 30th October 2017
We enjoyed a visit to the Children’s Medical Research Institute Centre in Westmead last night. We had 24 in attendance and were provided with refreshments before and after our tour, which were very nice especially the homemade biscuits made by Mrs Phelps District Governer’s Barry’s wife, Barry was Governor during my year 2001-2002. We especially thank Chris Robison for his efforts in getting us there.
The Institute was an idea of Sir Lorimer Dods and Dr John Fulton. We heard about the work and saw some wonderful Mas-Spectromter machines, which if anyone knows NCIS they feature heavily in analyzing information. We were given insight in the research by Hilda Pickett and Scott Bryan both specialist researchers in their field. Also names like Roger Reddel, Patrick Tam and Phil Robson were mentioned. We learnt about Pro-Can, Telomere’s, genome, cell biology and various cancer results.
I will not go further but suggest that you have a look at their web site www.cmri.org.au regarding their research. They are raising awareness and money via donations and hopefully more through Government donations via various events. If you would like to make a donation this is possible via their website. I also noticed that the Gerringong Quilt & Craft Show held on 11 Nov this year donated to this charity and of course we always remember Jeans for Genes Day.
Once again thank you to Chris and members attending.
Thank you to all our members, and their companies, who underwrite our Club's activities and this publication.
The 4-Way Test 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
The Object Of Rotary The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
